Mystery in the Mission

Nathan pushed open the back door and stepped into the laundry.
What’s happening in Walter’s house? Why are the lights off?
He ran his fingers along the door post and finding the tab, switched the light on. Light flooded the hallway. Nathan blinked, his eyes adjusting to the intensity of the hundred-watt globe.
He moved into the kitchen. He fumbled for the switch. Finding it, he flicked on the kitchen light.
The place was empty. No human life, only the essential pieces of furniture, a table and chairs standing guard for the next invasion of humans. What’s going on with this Walter? How did he grow those wings? How did his hand grow into a gun?
