‘Yes, the IGSF are coming in to help with the rescue—hurry, we haven’t got much time.’ Driver grabbed my hand. ‘We have to go to meet our officers. We have to show them where the mutants and morphans are hiding.’

I had an uneasy feeling about my dream. It seemed just a little too real, like I’d lived it once. Must be a dream.

The viewer showed a mass of black-brown lumps. The stench like rotting fish stung my nostrils.
I sniffed. ‘Can you smell that?’
‘What?’
‘That smell.’
‘What smell?’ The Commander remained unaffected by any smell.

‘You have one more chance to redeem yourself, Ensign Mueller,’ Driver took a deep breath and made a tent shape with her hands and fingers. ‘You will be heading for Boris’ hideout; his planet. Too fast. Way too fast. I had an uneasy sense—all was not as it appeared to be. He was the Captain. I was his subordinate and trapped in this cove. ‘I’m not so sure, anymore.’
I began to walk away from him.
He padded after me. ‘I’m sorry, did I come across too strong. I just thought—you—and me…’
